How to Adjust Line Widths in Anime Studio

There's a fine line between, well, fine lines, and an artist needs to be able to navigate that space, particularly when those lines begin to move. Animation shows lines in motion, after all, and there's nothing more important to a line's basic form than width. Line width communicates depth, weight and other essential characteristics for clear storytelling. Fortunately for users of Smith Micro's Anime Studio software, adjusting line width is easily achieved with a Wacom tablet and the right software knowhow.

Using Wacom's Cintiq 22HD Pen and Touch, Smith Micro's Jason Cozy walks you through the process in this video. Starting with a naturally varied shape drawn with the tablet's pressure-sensitive pen, Cozy details how an artist can further shave away or build up its outer line to achieve a desired effect. In short: The Line Width tool is an animator's ally as they determine how subtle or drastic they want to make the lines of their animated figures.
