And yet, genuine thinking – the kind that gives you clarity, that sharpens your decisions, that cuts through noise – has never felt more rare.

Most people assume that's just the cost of the modern world. Brain fog. Scattered attention. The feeling that you're consuming endlessly but retaining nothing. I used to believe that too.

Until drawing changed everything.

Not drawing in the way most people think about it. Not galleries. Not selling prints. Not chasing aesthetics for strangers on the internet. I mean drawing as a private practice. As a thinking tool. As a direct line to the part of your mind that most people never learn to access.

My name is Kemane, and I've spent over 15 years as a professional illustrator and animator. I've worked at a level many artists spend their whole careers trying to reach. And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I realized I had completely missed the point.

The industry I was working in had made drawing about output. About product. About what other people would pay for.

And the moment I stopped drawing for others – the moment I started drawing purely for myself, drawing what was close to me, what was meaningful, what I could deeply relate to – everything shifted. My thinking became sharper. My decisions became cleaner. I started seeing patterns in my work and my life that had been invisible before. And what followed wasn't just creative clarity – it restructured the way I approached my career, my business.

The vision I developed through this practice brought me more opportunity than a decade of selling paintings ever had.

I finally owned my thinking. And it started with a sketchbook.

What I discovered is that drawing is one of the only practices that simultaneously engages your observation, your memory, your subconscious processing, and your decision-making – all at once. There is no app that does this. No productivity system. No meditation technique I've found comes close.

Drawing is a direct channel to how you actually think.

And the fastest way I ever learned to draw – faster than any course, any tutorial, any book – was sitting beside someone who could already do it. Watching them in real time. Following their hand. Asking questions in the moment. My brain would almost download their ability just through proximity and conversation.

I spent years wishing that experience could scale. That there was a canvas where people could show up together, draw together, and learn that way.

That's when I found Magma.

Magma is a collaborative drawing platform, and the moment I started using it, I knew it was what I'd been looking for for twenty years. What began as small, playful sessions on a shared canvas became something I never anticipated. Thousands of people are joining every week. One enormous artwork built together, session after session. Not because of the outcome – but because of what happened in the process of being on that canvas together.

We run free collaborative sessions open to anyone, including people who have never drawn before. It's not about learning to draw pretty things. It's about learning a visual journaling method that anchors you to reality, surfaces what your subconscious already knows, and makes you measurably better at every domain of life that requires clear thinking.

And if you've never drawn before? That is not a disadvantage. It is genuinely the opposite. You have no habits to unlearn. No identity attached to a style. You come in open – and that openness is exactly what this practice rewards.

The people who have transformed their thinking most profoundly through the Line Realm are not the ones who already knew how to draw. They're the ones who showed up willing to be honest with themselves on a canvas.

The Line Realm is open for applications. It's a small, selective programme – we take very few people at a time, because this only works when we can be fully present with each student. If you want to know more before applying, start here.

Explore the Line Realm →

The Wacom MovinkPad Pro 14

For sessions like these – drawing wherever I am, showing up fully present for the people in the room – I needed a tool that could match that standard.

It is the only tablet I've used that genuinely replicates the feeling of drawing on paper. Distraction-free. Precise. Built entirely around the act of drawing rather than around computing. The battery life means I'm never tethered. The display means nothing is lost between what my hand does and what appears on screen.

For collaborative mentoring sessions, it's not just a tool. It's the reason I can show up at the level my students deserve, wherever in the world I happen to be.

In the age of AI, your aesthetic judgment is more valuable than ever.

There is a conversation happening right now about what AI will make obsolete. Illustration is in that conversation. Animation is in that conversation. Visual art broadly is in that conversation.

I want to say something directly: that conversation is asking the wrong question.

AI can generate images. It can produce outputs that are technically sophisticated, aesthetically coherent on the surface, and available at volume. What AI cannot do is develop genuine taste. It cannot cultivate the ability to see — to understand why a composition creates tension, why a particular line carries weight, why a colour relationship feels inevitable rather than arbitrary. It cannot train the part of you that knows, before you can explain it, whether something is working.

That capacity is not a soft skill. It is the skill. And the gap between people who have it and people who don’t is about to become the most visible gap in any creative field.

Here is what I’ve observed in fifteen years of working at the intersection of art and industry: the people who thrive in every transition – digital, 3D, motion, now generative AI – are not the ones who mastered the current tool fastest. They are the ones who could look at an output and know, immediately, what was wrong with it and why. Who could direct a process rather than just execute one. Who had developed an internal standard that no external tool could replace.

Drawing is the fastest way I know to develop that standard.

Not because drawing is the output. But because the act of drawing – of translating observation into line, of making thousands of micro-decisions about proportion and weight and rhythm – builds a visual intelligence that transfers to everything. To directing AI outputs. To evaluating generated work. To knowing which of ten AI-produced options is actually good and why.

The person who can draw is not competing with AI. They are the one the room turns to when AI produces something and nobody can articulate what’s wrong with it. That is not a diminishing role. That is an increasingly rare and increasingly valued one.

Drawing trains the judgment that makes AI useful rather than dangerous in creative work. It is not the opposite of AI fluency — it is the foundation of it. If you want to develop that foundation, the Line Realm is where that work happens.

What is the Line Realm?

This is not a course. There are no modules to complete on your own schedule that you'll abandon by week three. This is a live, collaborative practice — the same way I learned, the same way the human brain is actually wired to absorb skill and shift perspective.

If you’re reading this, you’re already someone who takes what you do seriously.
