Redesigning logos is a great way to practice your design skills and help when you’re having a creative block! I like redesigning logos from my favorite brands. Posting your work on social media can help you gain exposure and even get design gigs.

Steps:

1. Sketch your ideas using a pen and paper

Tip: Use the notes app (on iPhone) to scan your image

Tip: One way to redesign a logo is to keep the brand identity the same (same color palette, same overall vibe). Redesign can also mean changing the logo slightly using your own style and flare

2. Choose your favorite logo to work with

3. Open a new file on Adobe Illustrator (I used an A4 sized canvas)

4. Drag and drop the original logo and your sketch

5. Lower opacity of sketch (I did ~35%)

6. Using the paintbrush or pencil tool, outline your sketch

7. Make necessary adjustments using the direct selection tool

8. Hide sketch layer

9. Export and you’re done!

About the creator

Joli Noelle David is multidisciplinary designer who enjoys all things creative — graphic design, digital illustration, and content creation to name a few.
