We’re in the middle of the Substance Painter’s contest, guys. Haven’t heard of it yet? Well, here’s your chance to explore a new software, learn some new skills and even win some great prizes. In case you don’t know, what Substance Painter is, we’ll give you a short summary, before we introduce the task and eventually reveal what’s to win. Curious?
What’s Substance Painter?
If you’re into 3D creation, you have certainly heard of Substance Painter, if you’re not already using it. It is the leading software for 3D digital materials. So, if you want to take your skills beyond a 2D canvas and expand your possibilities, Substance Painter helps you breathe life into your creations. Best thing, there’s a free trial license valid until the 4th of April 2020, the deadline of the contest. So now’s the perfect time to grow your portfolio of skills and potentially even win this contest.
What’s the contest about?
2017 Substance Painter introduced their mascot, MAT, with the first Meet MAT contest. Now that he’s back, he needs a new look. You can help him find his favorite appearance and get a chance to win some highly valuable prices when entering the contest. Just download the latest version of Substance Painter including MAT or, if you just need to update your software, get it here. Add texture with Substance Painter according to how you want him to look, then render and submit (you might need to create an account first).
What are the rules?
- You have to use Substance Painter to give MAT his texture and look.
Although you’re allowed to import resources, you may not use textures you created with other tools. - Regarding shaders, you have to use the default ones provided by Substance Painter.
- You’re free to modify any aspect of the mesh template.
As long as you don’t break the Meet MAT identity, you can add interesting details, even displacement is allowed, but no baking from custom high-poly mesh. - Use the camera included in the Meet MAT project and include two Iray® renders.
Make the cameras C1 and C7 from the MeetMAT scene, ideal rendering resolution: 4096 x 2160 pixels (minimum resolution: 1920 x 1080 pixels).
You can include up to 3 additional renders, too. Hint: look at the rendering guideline section to get the best results. - Only one artwork per artist is allowed
These are the principal rules to enter this contest. Please also read the full terms & conditions, if you want to participate in the contest. If you want to know more in general, or cannot wait to participate, visit Meet Mat 2: the 3D Texturing Contest Returns
What are the prizes?
There are three different groups of contestants to be considered. Student and general contestants as last year and new this year: schools. They will be picked by the best student ratings. If you’re not a student, you belong to the general contestant group consisting of professionals, freelancers and anyone, who wants to give it a shot no matter their skill level.
