In this white paper, we explore the issue of color managment in 2D animation pipelines, and why having color-accurate mointors as well as pen displays – like Wacom Cintiq Pro and Movink 13 displays – is so important.
Animation professionals understand that a studio is a collaborative environment. Assets used in production may be created by in-house artists, freelancers, or even outsourced teams. Each of these sources may work with different software, on different operating systems, with different default settings.
For example, a background artist might create a landscape painting in one application, using the widegamut Adobe RGB colorspace, while a character designer might be working in sRGB. Each of these files represents a different input color space. If the input color space information is missing or incorrect, the colors may be misinterpreted at multiple points in a production pipeline, causing the asset to appear differently than it was intended to be displayed.
The goal of this white paper is to explain how color space management issues can occur as well as what the production team and technical directors need to understand in order to address these issues.
