Dancing with Animators at LightBox Expo – Introducing the Wacom and Toon Boom Animation Dance-Off

August 28, 2019

Call for entries: Animation Dance-Off

We are thrilled to announce a call for entries for our Animation Dance-Off during LightBox Expo 2019, sponsored by Wacom and Toon Boom. The Animation Dance-Off party will take place Saturday evening from 7:00PM to midnight in Justine’s Ballroom at the Sheraton hotel (connected to the convention center).

What is an Animation Dance-Off?

We’re glad you asked! The Animation Dance-Off is a one-of-a-kind contest/party where LightBox attendees get their groove on, enjoy refreshments, and showcase their animation chops for a chance to win great prizes, including a Wacom Cintiq Pro 24. To enter, Animation Dance-Off participants must animate a dance cycle featuring their characters dancing to the provided track sample by Mechloa Portland-based DJ and friend debuting his synthpop electro jam created exclusively for our Animation Dance-Off.

Track sample (120 BPM)

Who can compete?

Anyone attending LightBox (18 and over) with the skillset, rhythm, and sass to win.  All student or professional animators attending LightBox Expo are encouraged to submit a dance cycle for the Animation Dance-Off.

Requirements

Referencing the provided music, animators should use their favorite software to create a dance cycle that loops and satisfies the following specs:

  • PNG files (numbered in order and must have a transparent background)
  • 1000 x 1000px
  • RGB Color

How to enter

There are two ways to enter:

  1. Online submissions: E-mail your dance cycle to [email protected]
  2. Flash drive submissions: Turn in your dance cycle via flash drive at the Wacom Room (theater room 211)

The deadline for entries is September 7 at 3:00PM.
