Wacom is very proud to have sponsored the first annual LightBox Expo this past weekend in Pasadena, CA. Hats off to creators Bobby Chiu and Jim Demonakos for dreaming up a brilliant event that brought artists across the globe together for the ultimate celebration of art.
LightBox at a Glance
Between the bustling booths on the exhibit floor and the panels and demonstrations from industry leaders, there was no shortage of inspiration. The Wacom social team enjoyed attending presentations covering topics such as 3D sculpting, animation storyboard development, as well as digital drawing and painting. There were also five Cintiq stations scattered around the convention center where scheduled artists connected with attendees in a more casual setting. Aside from the demonstrations, our favorite part of LightBox was the endless one-of-a-kind artwork sold at the artist booths. By the end of LightBox, we collected an array of pins, stickers, books, jewelry, apparel, and even a few plushies that we just couldn’t resist.
The Wacom social team also debuted the brand new MobileStudio Pro at LightBox Expo. Artists across the convention center were able to test drive the ergonomic Wacom Pro Pen 2 and experience the clarity and superior color quality of the high-resolution display.
Animation Dance-Off
Our Animation Dance-Off sponsored by Toon Boom was a hit! LightBox attendees enjoyed a night filled with refreshments, networking, dancing, and a special compilation video showcasing our Dance-Off participants.
We want to thank those who attended our Animation Dance-Off; we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did! We’d also like to thank our sponsor, Toon Boom, panel of judges (Mike Morris, Christina Halstead, and Devon Cady-Lee), participants, and winners of the Dance-Off competition for being a part of a creative and lively evening. A special thanks to Mike Morris for bringing the Animation Dance-Off concept to life.
Congratulations to our winners:
1st: Dane Romley
2nd: Laura Franke
3rd: Ryan Simmons
Honorable Mentions: Joakim Riedinger, Trea Bailey
A Note from Bobby
“My favorite part of LightBox Expo has got to be the energy of the place. It felt like we were all in a happy little bubble. I loved seeing people meeting each other for the first time. There were even two proposals! There are only a few times in our lives that are so special that we don’t even understand the gravity of it until 10 or 20 years later. I feel like everyone knew that this moment in time at LightBox Expo was a very special one that we will look back fondly on for years to come.”
Congratulations to Bobby Chiu and Jim Demonakos for curating an amazing event – we look forward to LightBox 2020!
