Many of the accomplished artists I’ve interviewed throughout the years have emphasized practicing art fundamentals: the key building block components for your drawings.
The specific fundamentals vary slightly depending on what you’re drawing: environments, characters or objects, but one thing they all have in common is structure. Sound structure means how solid feeling, how real and three dimensional is the thing you’re drawing.
In this video, I’ll show you a simple technique I use to make sure my drawings have good structure and I’ll give you some tips on how to choose good teachers and mentors to make sure you are learning the fundamentals from the right people.

He got his first professional art job at the age of seventeen, designing Disney, Warner Bros., and Star Wars toys. Bobby has since won a number of awards for his creative work, including an Emmy. He presently works in concept and character design, teaches digital painting online at Schoolism.com, publishes art books, and works on other top secret projects that we’re not allowed to talk about.
