Osu! is a popular rhythm-based video game that involves, at its core, clicking a series of circles in time with the beats of a song — but it gets much more complex and involved than that. The top players in the world use Wacom tablets to play the game because the ergonomics, precision, and response speed of a Wacom tablet are much better than a standard mouse. Check out this article we did recently about the “new kings of osu!”
One of the top osu! players and content creators is KoiFishu, who believes the new Wacom One is the best pen tablet for playing osu! He recently hosted a challenge on his Twitch channel: random viewers of the stream would have the chance to go up against a top player in a one on one match. If they won, they would win a new Wacom One small tablet! The top player, who is also an osu! World Cup player for the US, was Kama, aka Cheetoblast (check him out on Twitch and/or Twitter).
Check out the video below on KoiFishu’s YouTube, or read on for a summary of the event.
How the challenge went
The first challenger was Chromasia — who rolled higher than Kama and chose an easy map that he had memorized — and won the very first match! Would the challenge be over before it even got started? No.
The next five challengers lost against Kama, prompting KoiFishu to change up the rules slightly to make the competition more fair — rather than rolling for who gets to choose the map, only the challenger would be allowed to. Choosing the map gives the challenger an advantage, because they can choose one they’re familiar with and that Kama may have never played before!
The first challenger to take advantage of this shift is Xyrrk, who choses an extremely easy, slow map — confusing Kama and winning the second tablet.
Challenger TheGlobalLegend chooses a difficult map, and actually pulls out ahead at the beginning, beating Kama fair and square for the first half of the map! But they miss a few times in a row, lose their confidence, and Kama wins in a very close matchup. The next matchup is similar — Uberfazz, a high ranked player, chooses a difficult map and keeps pace with Kama for most of the map, only to lose in a close match at the end.
Finally, Loopyng is selected. They choose a very old map that appears strange to viewers — and to Kama. He struggles on the strange, old map, and Loopyng cruises to victory, winning the third and final tablet!
