In April 2024, Wacom announced its newest innovation in the creative technology industry: Wacom Movink. This OLED display is our slimmest, lightest pen display ever. From 4-6.6mm thick, weighing less than 1lb, and with an extremely slim bezel, every inch of Wacom Movink’s 13.3″ full HD screen is used to powerful effect. This level of performance has never been so portable.
But that’s our opinion — what do actual users think? We’ve rounded up a couple reviews to see.
Brad Colbow: “I’m so glad this product exists.”
Brad Colbow has reviewed most of our products over the last few years, and he’s always been honest and fair, never shying away from criticism. But this time, he had almost nothing but praise for Wacom Movink, starting off his video by saying he’s “so glad this product exists.”
While Wacom’s pro-level products are “great,” in his mind, they’re also pretty expensive. Not only is Wacom Movink a portable pro-level product with an OLED display, it’s also relatively affordable at $749.95 MSRP in the US. But the lightness and portability really are the stand-outs: “It’s insanely light,” he says. “It’s really portable. And you’re still getting Wacom’s best feature, which is their Pro Pen 3. … if you’ve been waiting for Wacom to release a really good tablet at a decent price, look no further.”
He had praise for the size and shape, design including the physical buttons, and liked the various nibs included with the Movink-specific version of the Pro Pen 3. He also liked the screen itself: the brightness, the viewing angle, its palm recognition, and the multi-touch gesture controls — which he said work about as well on Mac as on Windows, which is not a given. He even specifically called out that some other tablet companies have “given up” on providing touch controls for Mac. “This is one area where Wacom really stands out from the competition,” he explained. In addition to standard pinch and zoom, he loved all of the customizable touch gestures that Wacom lets users create, including an on-screen touch shortcut creator, for moveable, customizable ExpressKeys. He also mentioned that it works well with Android.
He loves Wacom Pro Pen 3, but discussed the differences between the Pro Pen 3 that comes with Movink and the one that comes with Cintiq Pro. It’s thinner and has slightly less customization, but in exchange comes with a built-in nib organizer. Because of the OLED display, there’s virtually no gap between the pen and the actual display, meaning there’s virtually no parallax and an extremely fast response time. The three physical buttons allow for even more customization.
“What most creatives want,” he says, other than the high-end pros that need a Cintiq Pro’s color settings and other expensive features, “is Wacom’s pen. They want that experience, and you can get that here, at a lower price, plus you’re getting the added features of portability.”
Notebook Check: “A professional option in a package that’s simply mind-blowing.”
Notebook Check’s reviewer, Alex Wätzel, has extensive experience with high-end photo retouching, and has used a variety of Wacom products over the years. He typically would use a pen tablet, like a Wacom Intuos Pro, to travel light. We sent him a Wacom Movink to see how it compares to what they’ve used in the past and to get his thoughts — especially because photographers and photo editors are often on the move. Does Wacom Movink’s portability stand up to a high-end, traveling photo editor workflow?
“Despite its slim appearance,” he says, “this little guy gets it where it counts — and it actually borrows many of the more professionally oriented features from Wacom’s high-end Cintiq Pro.” Those include the Pro Pen 3’s 8,192 levels of pressure sensitivity, and the display’s near-complete lack of parallax: “I feel like I’m closer to my images than ever before.”
He especially praised the device’s “professional-grade” color capabilities. This makes Wacom Movink a true on-the-go solution for photographers, for whom color is extremely important. “It’s not just a pen display … with professional-grade color gamut coverage for often-used color spaces in the creative industry, pre-calibrated color profiles like Rec 709 … and the option to manually calibrate the display yourself … it’s basically a reference screen in your pocket.”
According to Wätzel, it’s a “professional option, that is priced competitively, which doesn’t sacrifice on anything, in a package that is simply mind-blowing.”
