Simon Songhurst: A Photographer’s Take on the Wacom Movink for Photo Retouching

08/08/2025

Simon Songhurst is a London-based photographer, filmmaker, and director, renowned for his expertise in lighting. He has produced visuals for global brands, including Dove, Lancôme, L’Oréal, Wella, and Peroni. Simon reviewed the Wacom Movink after seven months of use, highlighting its benefits for photo editing, particularly in Capture One and Photoshop.

Key Benefits of the Wacom Movink for Photo Editing

Portability and Design: Simon remarked that the Movink is wafer-thin and its lightweight design allows him to set up a retouching station anywhere.

Additional Accessories: The stand (Simon calls it an easel) and travel case, make the Movink especially convenient to transport.

Intuitive On-Screen Retouching: Simon found that the primary benefit is the ability to retouch directly on the screen using the Wacom pen, which he finds to be incredibly intuitive and much easier than looking up at a separate display, especially for detailed tasks like blemish removal in Photoshop. This direct interaction feels natural and significantly improves his workflow.

Seamless Integration and Performance: The device connects via a single USB-C cable to his MacBook Pro, offering real-time performance with no lag or delay. Simon uses the Movink as a secondary display, which works well for professional tasks.

Superior to iPad Pro: In a previous video, Simon used the Movink as a dual monitor when editing photos using Capture One and has tried the exact same type of setup with the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil and found that the iPad doesn’t give the same level of professionalism that the Movink offers.

Dual-Screen Functionality: He uses it as a dual screen with Capture One and has also found it incredibly handy with DaVinci Resolve for video editing, where it can mount perfectly in a micro color grading console.

Customization: While the Movink offers customizable on-screen keys and touch functionality, Simon prefers to use keyboard shortcuts, finding them sufficient for his workflow.
